Cedar Integrated Primary School and Nursery Unit Waiting List Policy

Nursery and Primary 1


Should a vacancy arise after 29th April 2020 all applications for admission to Nursery/Primary 1 that were initially refused, new applications, late applications and applications where new information has been provided, will be treated equally and the criteria below applied.


1. Children who have a sibling enrolled or previously enrolled in school. Names must be
provided. The term “sibling” refers to brother/sister, half -brother/sister, step
brother or sister or adopted or foster brother/sister living permanently at the same
address.


2. Children who, at the date of their application are the eldest child of the family to
be eligible to apply for admission to the school.


3. All other children of compulsory school age.


4. Children on the basis of the initial letter of the surname in the order set out below.
The surname used will be as registered on the birth certificate or as subsequently
legally changed and documented.

5. Criteria will be applied to achieve, if possible, equal numbers of Protestant and
Roman Catholic pupils i.e. 40% of each denomination. A number of pupils from other
and non-religious backgrounds will be admitted in a proportion not exceeding 20%
of the total admissions number in any one year. In the event of less than 20% of
places being awarded to ‘Other’ applicants, the balance will be divided equally
between Protestant and Catholic applicants. In the event of there being an odd
number of places in the excess of places remaining from the allocation to ‘Others’,
the additional place will be allocated to the category having the greater number of
applicants.


The Principal will contact you if your child gains a place in the school.


Primary 2 to Primary 7


All parents/carers wishing to apply for a place in Primary 2 to Primary 7 are asked to write to the school outlining how their child meets the school’s published criteria as well as providing information regarding the religious category they would wish the application to be considered under. Should the school be oversubscribed and have no places available, then the child’s name will be added to the Waiting List.


Should a vacancy arise after 1st September, all applications for admission to Primary 2 to Primary 7 will be treated equally and the above criteria applied.

 

The Principal will contact you if your child gains a place in the school.


Please contact the school if you wish for your child’s name to be removed from the list.
